Final Days

Glory Days x Out of Range (Reg# 158500001). Mature off the farm purchase from Kadin Walter. A little different pedigree that what we have around here with legacy Rake genetics laid in for generations on this guy. We bought this one to make productive Chester Whites, plain and simple. Final Days was exhibited by Howe's at the 2022 SWTC where Kadin picked him back up to come to Iowa. With Kadin's career taking a twist, Final Days became available and we decided that he was simply far to good of a hog to just let go to town. Big blades, big feet, big ribbed, lots of muscle and can walk all day! Final Days, ironically, has the potential to be the begininng of an whole new era here in SE Iowa.

Jumper Cables x We're In . Summer 2022 boar bred by and owned with Steve Meyer. Steve went to the tank and pulled out a couple doses of frozen Jumper Cables to make this one and then made sure he found his way to Iowa. Crank It Up fits in the lineup here in Fremont as more of a show pig sire. He has the look and feature in all the right places. Lots of extension, heavy bone, big feet, wide top, wide coming and going while still having depth of rib and age appropriate muscle pattern. While his pedigree is somewhat mainstream, it is very different for us and we're excited to put him to work in our herd to inject some look and style.

Here's The Deal

7-2

Here's The Deal x Making Change (Reg# 433858002). Off the farm Duroc purchase from John Huinker. You might wonder why we would have a red boar on a farm that doesn't have any red sows. It's a fair question - we bought him to make crossbreds. When he got here he learned he was a boar and got all ranted out running the fenceline...but he has since settled down some and got his fill back. Tall shouldered, stout skulled, and big footed. He has a really cool profile and has no problem struting his stuff around here. We don't need more sows but we won't rule out buying a red gilt this summer because he's pretty dang good!

Step One x Amped Up. Private purchase from Goff Genetics. We'd been on the hunt for a new York boar to follow up the Tribute gilts we have laid in. We looked across the Midwest to find what we wanted and finally got a lead on this guy. When he walked off the trailer, we said we want our Yorks to look Just Like That! Yorks should be attractive profiled...and he is. Yorks should take a long smooth stride...and he does. Perhaps an unpopular view but Yorks shouldn't look like every cross barrow...he doesn't. Smooth natural muscle shape, proper feet and legs, small/tight ears, barrel ribbed and wide based in a slightly bigger frame. Not a lot of fluff - just a dang good hog that we feel will make Yorkshire's better and get everybody saying that Yorks should look Just Like That!

TheBrow
The Brow

Colonel x Detox (Reg# 164799005). Mature boar acquired from Voorhees Showpigs (IL). Drew had been all but begging us to use this boar that he had bought from Neanan's back in 2017. We never got around to it, never got around to it, never got to it...until one day we saw an opening and snagged a couple bottles. We used him on a single sow and were really pleased with the outcome - we aren't so sure the gilts we kept back weren't the best spotted pigs on the farm in that crop. As an older boar, we knew his days were numbered but we went ahead and asked Drew if he would part with the boar and let us try to sneak in one, maybe two crops of pigs before his time runs out and fortunately Drew was open to it! As a 6yr old boar the convential ways to describe don't really apply...BUT...he still gets around the pen just fine and that alone is a testament to his structural integrity. He's big footed, stout skulled, and he still carries some muscle shape. When you saw him as a younger boar he was a long striding, easy moving kind of boar that was elevated in the shoulder, big bladed, and clean headed. More than likely we won't be letting any bottles loose on The Brow so as not to overwork him but he's for sure going to see the top end of our sow herd here in Fremont!

PowerGlide

Smack Down x Three Doors Down (Reg# 179449002). Best of the 2022 crop from Pink Genetics. Mike and the crew were on the fence with what to do with this one - show him or keep him close to home. A few phone calls back and forth and it was decided to keep him close. Power Glide, if you can't tell by his name, is an extremely heavy boned, moderate++ boar that just floats. He tracks wide and true. He's got big, correctly spaced toes and he's strong on his pasterns. But he's also really slick fronted with a shapely rib cage. Selfishly, we think he will be the perfect compliment to our Open Road pigs! Power Glide resides here but Pink Genetics is retaining partial ownership along with Oaks Livestock.

Tic Toc x Hocus Pocus (Reg# 156947001). This home grown boar was the standout of our 2020 summer crop and one that will see heavy use around here. Lining up the old Hocus bloodlines created one that is super attractive profiled with the trademark clean extension up front that Hocus pigs all seemed to have. He's wide up top, he's wide at the ground, he's correct on all four corners with proper angles! And it's not going to be a surprise to anyone that that has followed our program for very long that he's pretty unique pedigree-wise, being an outcross to most Chester's in the county with no Hill Jack blood in his veins (no Jack in the Box, Box Office, Custom Made, etc). This is one that can be used in any herd in America to make those outcrossed, 'sleeper' females and we mean it when we say he keeps getting MORE impressive with age!

NickelsDimes
Nickels & Dimes

Goin Rogue x Rapid Response (Reg# 157557006) Standout Goin' Rogue son that we kept back for ourselves from the 2021 crop. Sow of this guy was the best pig we had on the farm from the 2020 crop period - we don't let ones like her ever see the chip barn...and we're not sorry about it. This one is super complete, very well balanced, and he carries it well. Simply put, there is a lot of boar here and its all legit - no chip barn, no fancy feeds, no fluff - just good livestock! Not to mention you won't find another Chester pedigree in America like this one. Goin' Rogue's time was cut short due to injury and this is the last of that bloodline remaining and we plan to use him hard around here!

TriplePlay
Triple Play

Rescue Me x Big Bore. The saga continues with Triple Play. Triple Play was a young February boar shown by Tricia Veldhuizen at the 2022 Iowa State Fair. He had gotten into it with his penmate and wasn't showing his best but that didn't bother us any. If you reseach this pedigree, you'll see Rescue Me, Big Bore, and Rapid Response all in succession...all three of which lived here. We obviouly got to watch those three boars and their respective offspring. For a young boar, he has plenty of muscle shape in all the places you want it along with the stout skull that Big Bore tossed. He is really clean fronted which was falls in line with Rescue Me. And he profiles a lot like the old Rapid Response boar from his blade black. Triple Play maybe isn't the most unique pedigree to us but he's one that we're confident we can run back thru on our Old Habits and Nickels & Dimes pigs! On top of all of that, a littermate gilt also shown at ISF was flat out awesome so we have high hopes here!

Catalyst x Mr Clean (Reg# 157018006). Private purchase from the heart of Ronnie Perry's herd down in Oklahoma. Ronnie had a a really good boar in Belton but we had caught wind that he might have left a better one at home so we inquired...as did others. Worth the Wait required a second trip to Oklahoma but he was absolutely worth it! Nearly perfect frame size on big feet. Bold rib shape and more than enough muscle. He tracks wide coming and going and angles to his bonework are where they are supposed to be.

Hit The Road Jack x Trust First (Reg# 155589002) Online purchase from Boganwright's at the CPS Alternative Sale held in lieu of the 2020 Exposition. The old Hocus Pocus boar that we had was a generator but very few people sampled him and we don't get out to many shows so the world missed out. The same sow family of Hocus is back in behind this one which is what first grabbed our attention, his red hot littermate barrow also grabbed our attention after winning several big time, national,shows...and then when you see this guy, simply put he's a lot to take in. Find us a judge that wouldn't call this one a power hog and we'll buy you a cold pop. His bonework is MASSIVE...his feet are MASSIVE...his top is MASSIVE...and yet he's still an attractively made hog that ties it all together! If you're a car or motorcycle guy, you know that sometimes to get that extra power you need, you've gotta go to a bigger bore. Sadly, Big Bore's time was cut short but his one crop left their mark!

Hocus Pocus x Hez Irresistable (Reg# 155253004). This home grown boar was the standout of our 2019 summer crop and one we used heavily for our summer 2020 litters. A very good litter out of some of our best producing sow lines! An all around complete hog that will help boost those maternal qualities that make both the show and commercial worlds go 'round. The Hocus sired pigs have some of the coolest front ends in the Chester breed in our opinion and this guy is no exception with a head carriage that seems to sit on top of his blade. Not to mention, by today's standards he's an old school pedigree. The clocks ticking on genetic diversity within in the Chester White breed and this is one that can be used in any herd in America to make those outcrossed, 'sleeper' females!

Primal x Captain Benny (Reg# 154647003). 2019 purchase from Banisters at The Exposition. The boys both zero'd in on the same two boars at the show - after discussing them, this was the one we decided was the better fit for our program. A little different pedigree that most of what's out there and one that can even be traced back to a couple different boars we had here a few years ago. Smoothie is just that, one smooth cat, he just glides around the farm. A lot of extension, square at all four corners, and maybe a tick longer sided than most out there today (picture makes him look longer than he really is) but without sacrificing width and rib curvature.

First Take x Nailed It (Reg# 153989004). 2019 Iowa State Fair purchase from the Veldhuizen family. We found this one walking back from the scales on check in day and basically followed him all the way back to the pen. Massive feet and legs, appropriate length of body, tall fronted, and he knows that he's a boar! This guy generated such an immediate and Rapid Response that we knew right away that we were going to do everything we could to get him loaded onto our trailer after the sale!

Punch Line x Bonecrusher (Reg# 150021003). 2017 SWTC purchase from Boganwright. Shares the same dam as Walk the Line, the $35,000 boar standing at Shaffer's - a great sow that generates high end pigs. Love to just sit and stare at him. So pretty with a clean up headed look, very square thru to the ground on all four corners, while being sound and fluid in his movement with great feet and legs. Loaded up with muscle and he can handle it! He stamped his hogs, litter after litter, with the extension that can be such a challenge.

Just in Time x Mack (Reg# 142974006). SWTC 2013 purchase from Armstrong's. Stood 2nd in class behind eventual Grand Champion (his littermate!). Four months after the show, while eating sow feed, he is still looking show ready. Big top, wide and square across his rump, bold-fronted and wide-chested. Feet and Legs are very good and he is sound. He's been a great one for us and we continued to use him until until the very end! One that will leave a lasting legacy for years to come!

Up on Blocks x Infusion (Reg# 151519002). SWTC 2018 purchase from Parkinson & Rodibaugh. There are heavy boned hogs and then there are HEAVY BONED HOGS - this guys fits in the 2nd group for sure! In our opinion, there wasn't a better Chester boar in the building off the back two legs. Couple that with being tall at the point of the shoulder with a clean, up headed look and we knew he was the one to bring back to Iowa!.

Boomerang x Bull Top (Reg# 145400008). 2014 STC 2nd Class 2, purchased from M.D. Ideus, IL. In our opinion, the best boar MD has turned loose to date. Thick, square top, big butted, heavy/correct bone plus sound feet and legs. Moves with ease! His mother just had her 9th litter and has been a generator for MD. We absolutely love this guy. We have analyzed him over and over to see what's wrong with him and the only thing we can say is "Knot Much."

Big Buck x Venom (Reg# 142140001). If you like 'em monster boned and sound, well look here. Clean-headed, tall-fronted, big rump, stout-fronted, with good rib shape and more bone and foot size than you can find anywhere. He reminds us a lot of his grandsire, Just Maybe. His mother also has more bone than most boars.

4HF Ronnie x ALU (Reg# 141226002). The best of the farm purchase from Drew Voorhees. Littermate gilt was the 2011 Fall Classic Champion gilt. A super correct and well balanced boar. Tall fronted, level topped and really sound on the both ends. Big thick squared top and plenty of butt that is not only wide but long in it's muscle pattern. Feet and legs are ideal. His head is up and very clean. Deep-ribbed and wide-based with lots of gut capacity.

A little different genetic package. A little bigger skeleton than most. Fast growing, heavy-boned, deep-ribbed, all on big feet with even toes. Scanned a very impressive 4.7% IMF.

BOLN Vanilla Ice x LEC Thumbs Up (Reg#138935001). Reserve Champion and top selling Chester boar at the WPX 2010. Thick, wide, barrel-ribbed, very well muscled, and a very high quality underline. This guy is super sound, loose-structured and carries his head high. He's got the strut and pride of a bantam rooster. We tried to shrink him down after we got him home and found we could not. Sadly, The Rooster wasn't around as long as we wanted but several daughters were retained and his influence can still be found in most of the litters that hit the ground here in Fremont to this very day!

Ticks x Easy Out (Reg# 137152003). Level topped and tall fronted with a clean extended front. Plenty of butt and lots of bone. The set and curvature to his back feet and legs is almost perfect, big feet with even toes. He is bold-fronted with a pretty side profile. This guy's family tree is filled with winners: '09 Iowa State Fair - FFA Champion Chester Barrow, FFA Reserve Chester Barrow, FFA Champion Chester Breeding Gilt, Reserve Supreme Champion Breeding Gilt over all breeds, and the Clay County Fair Champion Chester Gilt are all littermates to Keep on Tick'n. His mother was also a littermate to our NBS Hog College Gilt.

High Plains Drifter x Big Show (Reg# 133648001). This High Plains Drifter son from the Paul Beaver Family, was our pick of boars at the 2007 STC. Bone, rib, muscle, depth and mass, oh, did we mention BONE! This guy has sired several champions and high placing individuals including Vroegh's Reserve Chester Male Prospect at Duncan.

Just Maybe has been named Super Sire at the NBS and has ranked as high as 3rd in the National Sire of the Year points standing. Sires very sound, functional hogs that grow well. His first daughters are doing great in the farrowing house. The name Just Maybe no longer fits as he is a definite Yes!

White Out x Power Play (Reg# 129365004). Easy Out has been gone for a while but his influence still remains strong in our sow herd. One of the all time greats to serve here. Sire of lots of champions and winners but more importantly, a sire of just flat good hogs that are generators.

Venom

Rewind x Step'n Up (Reg# 136423002). In our opinion, he is of perfect frame size. A really good-footed boar that is well muscled. He walks with his head held high and has a great boar attitude. His mother is AC Elly 7-9, one of the best generating sows in our herd ...ever. She has raised some national winners for us as well as lots of keeper gilts. If our math is right, the old Stinger boar shows up 24 times in this pedigree. This makes him just about a total out cross to most Chesters in the USA.

Clean Cut x Triple Play (Reg# 120616001). Some will ask "Why would you run a picture of a boar born in the 90's?" Well, this guy is in every sow pedigree on the farm, sometimes several generations in a row. Without a doubt, the backbone of our herd. We just keep lining him up over and over. No junk, just lots of good. We can't say enough about this genetic power house.

Foot Works x High Country (Reg# 630809005). Res. Champion York Boar at 2019 Illinois State Fair, exhited by the Stoutenborough Family and bred by Brian Down. We knew we needed to find a York boar to follow up our old herd sire, See No Evil and after a couple phone calls from Illinois letting us know a couple good ones, we decided that Inside Out was the one we needed. Such a complete boar with a different blend of parts and pieces that what we see in a lot of current Yorks. Really good on his feet and legs, and little more length of body while still keeping a wide chest floor, a clean and extended front end and more than enough top shape but without taking it to far.

Ricochet x Take Notice (Reg# 607226001). Valley Yorkshire's Res. Champion Yorkshire Boar from 2017 Iowa State Fair. We fell in love with this guy the moment we laid eyes on him. So stout made with tremendous amount of bone and big feet. Lots of shape down his top and rump while being really free and easy moving. He should've brought a lot more money but we're happy that we got to use him - and his legacy continues with a number of daughters in the herd!!

Caveman x Snow Plow. 2014 NBS purchase from Lorenzen's (2nd Class 2). We completely missed this guy when walking thru the barn--but didn't miss him on show day! Thick top, heavy bone, and a big barrel rib are just a few of the things that have us excited.

Back Road x High Life (Reg# 172739002). 2020 STC purchase from Greg Sharber (OK). This guy spent Ohis first year in Illinois with Drew & Martin Voorhees before making his way to Iowa in early summer of 2021. A big, powerful boar that still has the look and natural top shape! As he has matured, he has kept that extra clean extension up front, he's still as authentically wide coming and going as he was in the show ring, and he STILL has proper pasterns and toes that all point straight north as an almost 3yr old boar - no soggy footed, dew claw dragging here! He's not the heaviest boned boar you've ever seen, we'll concede that...but he is oh so sound and that is a trait that we focus on maintaining in our herd. A little different twist in a spotted pedigree with a mix of old and new adds to the intrigue. You'd have to drive quite a few Open Roads to find one like this guy!

Luke x Jarhead (Reg# 173138006). 2020 Champion 4-H Spotted Boar, Mo State Fair, bred by Miller Show Stock. Weren't looking for a spot boar but glad we took the call from our friends at Pink Genetics. This one has a super unique blend of parts and pieces and yet he's also 100% complete in how it ties together. Attractive profiled, big bladed, big footed, plenty of muscle, plenty of rib shape and dimension, naturally jacked up head and neck, etc. We've tried to find holes but can't - he might very well be the sleeper of the year in the spotted breed.

Slick fronted, big even toes, powered up but not excessive, long fluid stride, and he's an outcross to most spots in America today. Jayme didn't have to share interest in this boar but he allowed us to buy in, move him here and put him to work.
